Information Affairs Authority President Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa hailed the important role of the Bahrain Journalists Association since its inception and paid tribute to journalists in all media channels.
This came as he received BJA board members led by Chairman Isa Al-Shaiji, congratulating them on their election.
“The panel comprises the cream of journalists representing local newspapers and other media”, stressing their role in ensuring the success of collective work, promoting the march of the press in Bahrain and protecting journalists’ rights”, he said, pointing out media strides under the pioneering reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.
He cited particularly modern technologies and the freedom enjoyed by newspapers and other media in addressing key national issues. The two sides explored prospects of cooperation, agreeing on launching a local press award. A proposal to set up a press grievance authority was also discussed.
The proposed panel would receive press complaints and ensure their out-of-court settlement.
The BJA board members backed the idea, pledging to elaborate the project further, stressing its importance in promoting the press profession in Bahrain.
Al-Shaiji outlined BJA planned projects and programs, including a proposal to set up a press institute in charge of training Bahraini journalists, in cooperation with Bahraini universities’ media and press departments.
