Bahrain’s Interior Ministry warned against plans to block country’s transport network and cause massive traffic congestion in a bid to subvert public order and disrupt citizens and expatriates’ interests.
In a statement issued on Monday, it announced that it would exercise its legal prerogatives to prevent any attempt to break the law. “Legal action will be taken against violators involved in such acts which are punishable by the law”, it said in response to online calls posted on the internet to block roads and highways.
Citing the law on traffic, the ministry said that the lawbreakers could be jailed and fined.
It warned that it would take additional punitive measures, including the revocation and suspension of driving licences, registration certificates and car number plates.
Under the traffic law, driving licences could be revoked for up to one year, in addition to other legal punitive measures.
The ministry urged parents to look after their children and prevent them from obeying instigators who incite them to engage in such illegal acts which may compromise their future.
