Bahrain has reaffirmed its resolve to carry out the recommendations cited in the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) Report.
It has also left the door open for any party “wanting to move forward and embark on the reform march”. Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa said.
He deplored the decision of Welfaq Islamic Society to boycott the National Commission charged with BICI report recommendations. He described the decisionas reminiscent of Al-Wefaq’s past negative stances.
He cited its walkout from the Parliament and refusal to engage in a national dialogue under the initiative launched by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander.
The decision also brings to mind Al-Wefaq’s withdrawal from the National Consensus Dialogue and boycott of the legislative bye-elections.
Shaikh Khalid described the BICI Report as a defining moment in national history as it gauges the deplorable events which hit Bahrain and outlines a roadmap to address their aftermath.
He appealed to all parties to assume their responsibilities for the recommendations to be achieved– being a national trust and responsibility which must not be squandered.
