Minister of State for Information Affairs, Samira Ibrahim Bint Rajab stressed that the most dangerous challenge facing the GCC states is the weak media, highlighting that the Gulf media still doesn’t have the elements of modern and contemporary media to face different kinds of security challenges in the region.
During an interview with “GCC Voice Radio,” the minister stressed that the media is the first and forefront weapon, calling on decision makers to absorb the meaning of media for it is the true weapon.
The minister also said that the media has become open as air reaching everyone, pointing out addressing everyone with their true mental level, and highlighting that the security challenges today are concerned with reform in the region, while the media doesn’t address the real reform in the region and existing welfare.
“There is a lost media message that should address the reason, and developing reason through media has also become lost, and we have become unable to face the world with the old message which is still controlling the media mentality in the region,” she said.
Samira Bint Rajab stressed that the media is no less important than the arsenal, for it must parallel with the arsenal’s force and capability.
Concerning the role of the young people in the light of the accelerated various media, the minister said, “Young people are considered part of the society, and the insufficiency of media is reflected on their role, emphasizing the importance of a proper media that adopts key vision and concept in raising the awareness of young people and properly direct them with a clear media message not through the old receptive method.”
The minister said that today there are social means of communication and cell phones which make the interaction quick and easy for all, so they can easily and immediately communicate with each other, therefore the news is transferred fast.
The minister urged the Gulf media to be aware of how to use and invest those means of communications in directing the awareness of all starting with young people, highlighting that the media has a great role in achieving the dream of the Gulf unity for the Gulf people are similar, and they face same challenges, calling on the unity of the Gulf message, and collectively face the challenges.
The minister said, “The Gulf unity in no longer a dream, for it is a reality witnessed today, and we are proceeding to achieve it, and strongly considering the family cohesion between the GCC states.”
