International horse racing championships in the UAE are boosting the sales for the classic “Ascot” ties, according to a regional retail expert, who says UAE sport lovers, especially those who attend racing competitions, are showing strong preference for Ascot ties.
Andrew’s Ties, the international Italian fashion brand specializing in ties, has witnessed increased demand for these types of ties ahead of Dubai World Cup 2013, according to Ihab Abu Hadhoud, Brand Manager, Andrew’s Ties UAE, represented in the UAE by H2 Fashion.
“It was a trend in the 19th century in the UK Royal Ascot horse race to wear an “Ascot” tie, which is a narrow neckband with wide pointed wings, traditionally made of pale grey patterned silk. This wide, formal tie is usually patterned, folded over, and fastened with a stickpin or tie tack. This trend is visible among the UAE community during the preparations for Dubai World Cup which results in high demand for Ascot ties,” he said.
The Ascot is descended from the earlier type of cravat widespread in the early 19th century and it is made of heavily starched linen and elaborately tied around the neck. Later in the 1880s, amongst the upper-middle-class in Europe men began to wear a more loosely tied version for formal daytime events with daytime full dress in frock coats or with morning coats. It remains a feature of morning dress for weddings today.
“Ascot is the only tie that has a unique name, unlike other ties which differ from each other by the way they are tied. This outfit has been modernized lately to suit jeans with a shirt and sport jacket, so that it can be worn in both on formal and casual occasions,” he added.
Andrew’s Ties, available in 20 countries around the world, specialises in neckties, shirts, belts and relevant accessories. Andrew’s Ties also do branding for ties for work attire, uniforms and special occasions.
“Our team members train customers on how to wear an “Ascot” and help them choose the colors. We also provide tips for outfits in similar events,” he concluded.
Andrew’s Ties is available in five UAE malls including Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre, Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi and in the extension of Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi. H2 Fashion plans to open five new stores in the region over the coming five years.
Andrew’s Ties is renowned in this industry globally. The brand has more than 100 stores worldwide.
