The 19th GCC-EU political session was today in Brussels, Belgium. Foreign Ministry’s undersecretary for regional affairs and GCC, Hamad Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Amer chaired the GCC side in the meeting.
The two sides discussed regional and international developments, particularly the Syrian crisis, the Middle East process, the Palestinian cause, Yemen and the dangers of the controversial Iranian nuclear programmes on the security and the environment of the Arabian Gulf Region, in addition to the flagrant Iranian interference in the internal affairs of the GCC member states.
Bahrain’s delegation submitted a detailed and compelling report on Iranian-backed terror and acts of violence, including the terror cells which were recently busted in Bahrain.
Al-Amer opened the meeting stressing the GCC firm commitment to peaceful co-existence, respect of other countries’ sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and rejecting of any interference in their internal affairs. The upcoming EU-GCC ministerial council meeting is schedule to be held on July 1, 2013 in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
