With 60% market share in the Smart TV segment, LG Electronics (LG) is treading on the path to become the number Smart TV segment across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, a top regional official at LG Electronics revealed.
“LG Electronics continues to be innovative by rolling out the best Smart TVs which will help to make this brand a number one selling brand across the region,” D.Y. Kim, President of LG Electronics Gulf FZE, told the audience during the launch of LG Smart TV in Bahrain.
LG Electronics, a global leader and technology innovator, today unveiled its new range of Smart TV products in Bahrain. With the Smart TV segment representing nearly 35% of the Electronic giant’s sales in the region, the 2013 line-up is expected to have a solid impact on customers in Bahrain.
“LG Electronics’ R&D is driving the development of “Great Products” and strengthening its core technological capabilities through the launch of world class televisions. The television segment currently represents approximately 45% of group sales from premium televisions such as Smart TV’s. However, LG does not want to stop there. They intend to increase their premium share to 60% by the end of 2013, with 70% of the organization’s TV portfolio compromising of Smart TV sales.”
The corporation has been working diligently to produce technology that meet’s the customers changing demands. With the competition growing, LG believes they have introduced products that have an immediate appeal among customers.
According to research conducted by LG in association with Yahoo! Maktoob, on what consumers preferred in the TV segment, more than 40% of 600 customers favored having a Smart TV experience as a feature while purchasing a premium TV.
LG’s Home Entertainment division recorded record sales of flat-panel TVs during the fourth quarter of 2012, resulting in 17.4% revenue increase quarter-on-quarter. The Electronics giant expects to maintain a consistent level of sales throughout the year while also looking for growth in 2013.
“2013 is an important year because for LG, it marks the beginning of a new TV era,” D.Y. Kim, President of LG Electronics Gulf FZE, said. “With game-changing products such as 2013 Smart TV: LA8600, OLED TV and Ultra HD TV, we are in a strong position strategically to lead the industry. The imminent release of our LA8600 series in the first quarter of 2013 will give us a head start in a market where speed is a critical component of success.”
The flagship model, the 55-inch LA8600, provides more intuitive controls, enhanced user interface (UI) and advanced SmartShare feature which enables one-touch media sharing across multiple devices. LG is firmly committed to raising its Smart TV profile. A redesigned Magic Remote allows users to easily control their Smart TV with everyday voice commands or simply point to the TV screen and direct an on-screen cursor, almost like using an “air mouse”. LG’s newest Smart TVs also deliver a smoother user experience and superior picture quality thanks to an upgraded CPU and graphics processor.
LG has developed strategic partnerships with local content providers to offer better quality Smart TV content such as Timeout Dubai, ADMCsport.com, Alaan TV, Zawya, Roya TV, LBC, City 7, CNBC Arabia, Shoof AL Kass, eTarab, Ikbis, AnaZahra, DMTV, Sports360 as well as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. What’s more, the company plans to expand its joint efforts to offer more region-specific entertainment and live broadcasts in order to deliver the best possible Smart TV user experience to LG customers worldwide.
