The Assistant Undersecretary of Legal Affairs at the Interior Ministry affirmed on Saturday that the torture allegations made by Ali Salman, the General Secretary of Al Wefaq National Islamic Society, on Friday during an authorized gathering in Diraz are incorrect and baseless.
In addition, the Assistant Undersecretary called for those who claim they have been treated counter to international standards by police to file a complaint with the office of the General Secretary of Ombudsman. The Ombudsman’s Office was established specifically for this purpose as part of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) reforms. The Office also aligns with the reform project of His Majesty the King.
He said that the numbers mentioned by Ali Salman in his speech are false and stressed that any arrest made by the public security force is done in accordance with the law. Arrests are made as a result of investigations into criminal activity and follow all legal procedures.
The Assistant Undersecretary concluded by stressing the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and to the pursuit of the truth. He stressed that the security force performs their duties professionally and that the Ministry’s policies and practices conform to international standards.
