Dubai: Merck Serono, the biopharmaceutical division of Merck, has asked Emerging Markets Intelligence and Research (EMIR) to garner insights on how the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can achieve its national development plan by harnessing greater knowledge transfer.
According to the UAE National Charter 2021, innovation, research, science and technology will underpin the country’s future knowledge-based, highly productive and competitive economy, where public and private sectors form effective partnerships.
“Merck Serono strongly believes that we have a role to play here and this research reflects our strong desire to give back to the UAE. We think—given the country’s success in attracting foreign direct investment—that there is a valuable opportunity to harness knowledge, technology and expertise from our global vault of resources, which will benefit not only the economy, but also the indigenous talent pool,” Yasser Tawfik, General Manager of the Gulf Co-Operation Council (GCC) region at Merck Serono, said.
The Merck Serono commissioned-research will consist of both desk and primary research, including in-depth interviews with senior policymakers, academics and business leaders. The information and insights garnered from these discussions will form a 4,000-word report and will be used to produce a mini-documentary around the topic of knowledge transfer in the UAE.
“EMIR will tap into its extensive network of corporate and government partners to garner fresh insights into how the UAE can create an ecosystem where foreign investors are encouraged to create real economic value by bringing the latest technology and highest product standards to the Emirates,” Trevor McFarlane, Founder and CEO of EMIR, said.
Insights from the research will be released at an event at Burj Al Arab on February 2nd 2015. Delegates for the invitation only event will include senior UAE policymakers and important opinion leaders in the field of knowledge transfer, with a special focus on health care.
