MANAMA: With extremist groups called ISIS, ISIL, Daesh continue to attract foreign recruits from across the globe, the military strikes and use of force unlikely to yield end-goals in this conflict, according to a senior UN Diplomat.
“The use of military force to uproot ISIS, ISIL and Daesh from the Middle East will remain a shorty-term solution and not the ultimate goal,” Ambassador Mokhtar Lamani, during the Press conference told The24X7News Bahrain (www.twentyfoursevennews.com).
Ambassador Lamani, who is Former UN Political Representative in Syria, Former League of Arab States Rep in Iraq, was addressing a Press conference on Wednesday at the International Peace Institute (IPI) and said these extremist groups continue to attract foreigners and as a medium to long-term solutions many initiatives have to be implemented by the global community.
Earlier, Ambassador Lamani conducted a presentation which was attended by the Diplomatic Corps in Bahrain in presence of the Director IPI MENA Nejib Friji.
The challenge before us, Ambassador Lamani said, is how to de-radicalize the youngsters who have been attracted by these groups and fear is that this will continue until and unless the young generations were not told about this concept which has no valid grounds.
“We have work hard beyond security concerns to win back the hearts of common people especially those who have been idealizing the groups like Daesh and others,” he added.
Talking about the Daesh he said it was movement of radicalization and has to be addressed accordingly by reaching out to the real root causes.
