MANAMA: Pakistan’s renowned philanthropist and role model social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi died on Friday after a prolonged illness. He was 92 and Faisal Edhi, while confirming the news of his death said that the family would try to continue late Edhi’s mission without any interruption.
The renowned humanitarian, who was the founder and chairman of Edhi Foundation, was diagnosed with kidney failure three years ago but was since unable to receive a transplant due to his poor health. Edhi Foundation is one of Pakistan’s largest public welfare organisations which runs one of the biggest fleets of ambulances, and dozens of clinics and orphanages in the country.
In a last act of kindness and selflessness, Faisal Edhi said his father had wished that all his usable body organs be donated after his death.
His funeral prayers will be offered at the Memon Masjid in Bolton Market, Karachi after Zuhr prayers on Saturday and will be laid to rest, as per his wishes, at the Edhi village.
