MANAMA: Mahmood Rafique, Editor: There has been a sudden spike in death tally from the COVOID-19 with four new deaths reported in the past 24 hours taking the total number to 41, according to Bahrain’s Ministry of Health, website.
The total testing for the COVID-19 has reached 418413, actives cases number increased to 5368 among them 5350 stated to be stable and 18 critical. While active cases receiving treatment were 138 and discharged patients reaching 12818 and total 41 deaths from the COVID-19 as of Sunday.
The spike in deaths and number of cases is largely attributable to a deliberate non-compliance of the health and safety guidelines developed and implemented by the authorities.
The non-compliance of precautionary measures issued by the Ministry of Health has enhanced the possibility of spreading of the virus among citizens at an alarming level, this was the message of the National Task Force on Combating the COVID-19 during their last Press briefing.
During the briefing on Wednesday last, the members of the National Task Force on Combating the COVID-19 revealed that on the basis of data collected between May 13 to June 9, 2020, the ratio among citizens of possible virus transmission stands at 1:83, means each hundred carrier of virus can potentially infect 183 others. However, the ratio is lower among the residents, which includes the expat labour as well those living generally in appalling and unhygienic conditions, stood at 1:53.
The data suggests that the deliberate non-compliance of the guidelines by citizens which include social distancing, wearing facial masks, no family or social gatherings, and sanitization etc. pushed the infection ratio higher.
The compliance of the guidelines is obligatory for each individual of the society and there is no reason to defy the set guidelines, the officials reiterated.
“All should adhere to the guidelines of the health and safety to overcome this challenge of combating COVID-19,” the official added.
