Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain took part in the Committee on Tourism and Competitiveness (CTC) 10th meeting, one of the technical committees of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
During the virtual meeting, Bahrain was represented by Dr. Ali Follad, the Acting Director of Marketing and Tourism Promotion Directorate at the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA).
The CTC meeting, which is held annually, aims at enhancing tourism ties among participating countries while providing a highly sustainable and constructive environment to develop the tourism sector as a whole. Bahrain took part as a representative for the Middle East region.
Dr. Ali Follad discussed with members of the regional administration to explore opportunities for mutual collaboration in a number of fields such as tourism statistics, training programs and rehabilitation as well as projects for technical collaboration.
“It was an honour to represent the Kingdom of Bahrain during the CTC meeting organized by UNWTO. This CTC meeting is a vital platform which enables the BTEA to network with leading representatives of the tourism sector from around the world, in order to work towards achieving joint visions, especially in the stage in which the global economy in general passes, and the tourism industry in particular, due to the effects of the emerging corona virus (Covid-19). At BTEA, we continue to extend all our efforts to strengthen Bahrain’s position as a prestigious tourism destination in order to further develop the tourism sector and increase its contribution to the national economy,” Dr. Ali Follad, said.
CTC mainly focuses its work on assessing the state of knowledge on the basic concept of “tourism competitiveness” and identifying its key factors. This process also includes identifying, developing and harmonizing concepts, models and operational definitions used in the tourism value chain in order to foster a competitive tourism environment.
