Manama: Ahlam Janahi has been re-elected as the President Bahraini Businesswomen Society (BBS) following an AGM
The newly elected BBS board of directors has ratified the final formation of members and committees in its meeting that took place following the final announcement of the results of the elections held on February 8th and 9th, 2021.
The General Assembly was held, in a friendly atmosphere with positive and active participation, to elect the Board of Directors for the eleventh session “2021-2023” on Monday, February 8, 2021, at the Society’s premises in Mahooz. The legal quorum of the Society was held under the supervision of the concerned authorities.
The elections resulted in the following members assuming the following board member positions:
President: Mrs. Ahlam Yousuf Janahi, First Vice President: Mrs. Salwa Yousif AlMoayyed; Second Vice President and Head of the Social Committee: Mrs. Vicky Saad Mouawad ; Board Secretary: Ms. Hala Ahmed Sulaiman; Treasurer: Mrs. Fatema AbdulKhaliq AlDilawer; Vice Board Secretary and Head of the Training and Technology Committee: Mrs. Sameera Abduljabbar AlKooheji; Vice Treasurer and Head of the Media and Public Relations Committee: Mrs. Fawzeya Ahmed AlKhaja, Head of Advisory and International Relations Committee: Ambassador Huda Ezra Nonoo; Head of the Cultural Committee: Dr. Hanan Saeed Madan; Head of Entrepreneurs and Startups Committee: Mrs. Nahed Eshaq AbdulRahman Eshaq, and Head of the Economic Committee: Mrs. Esmahan Hassan Bokhowa.
The number of votes cast in the elections reached 69 members and the number of valid votes reached 68 votes against only one “void” vote, and after the completion of the electoral process. The elections were held in the “personal presence” of the society’s members at its headquarters during which social distancing and necessary health precautions were considered.
After counting the votes, the committee supervising the elections announced the following results: Mrs. Ahlam Yousuf Janahi, with the highest votes, received 57 votes, Mrs. Fatema AbdulKhaliq AlDilawer 55 votes, Mrs. Vicky Saad Mouawad 55 votes, Mrs. Salwa Yousif AlMoayyed 51 votes, Dr. Hanan Saeed Madan 48 votes, Ms. Hala Ahmed Sulaiman 46 votes, Mrs. Sameera Abduljabber AlKooheji 44 votes, Mrs. Fawzeya Ahmed AlKhaja 43 votes, Mrs. Nahed Eshaq AbdulRahman Eshaq 40 votes, Mrs. Esmahan Hassan Bokhowa 39 votes, Shaikha Fajr bint Ali bin Rashid Al Khalifa 38 votes, and Ambassador Huda Ezra Nonoo 38 votes. Further to the tie in the last two votes, the elections’ supervising committee decided to hold by-elections on Tuesday, February 9, but Ambassador Huda Ezra Nonoo decided to step down from this part and settle for a first reserve member for the BBS Board. However, Shaikha Fajer Al Khalifa later resigned from the board membership and after the acceptance of her resignation by consensus of the board members, Mrs. Nonoo came on board as the 11th board member.
The new board of directors that comprises of new members, who represent 70% of the elected board, held its first meeting headed by the oldest member according to the law, and then positions were voted on and distributed amongst the board members.
The elections were held under the supervision of the concerned authorities represented by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Furthermore, all Covid 19 health precautionary measures and social distancing based on the directives of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the Bahraini Ministry of Health were taken into account during the general assembly and voting process.
The elections committee overseeing the elections included BBS society members Maryam Al Amir, Alia Al Amir, Badriya AbdulRahman and Amal Janahi.
