In line with directives issued by Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, the Chairman of the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company’s (GPIC) and the commitments of the GPIC Board of Directors towards continuous improvements and progress, GPIC has implemented a Responsible Care Programme.
The aim is to achieve excellence in all GPIC business activities and operations, especially when it comes to protecting safety, health and the environment as well as maintaining the security of all its assets, consistent with the company’s core objectives of producing safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly petrochemical products, i.e. Ammonia and Methanol an Granular Urea.
GPIC takes the implementation of its Responsible Care programme very seriously and has accordingly introduced this standard’s requirements into its ongoing Integrated Management Systems.
It is worth mentioning that the Responsible Care programme began in Canada in 1984 and is now practiced in more than 53 countries around the globe. The GPCA Responsible Care programme started in 2008.
GPCA has subsequently formed the Responsible Care Committee and the chairmanship of this vital GPCA committee was assigned to Abdulrahman Jawahery, the President of GPIC.
GPIC decided to go ahead with the third part of certification for its Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) and assigned DetNorske Veritas (DNV) as the external certifying body for this assignment. Pre-assessment and the gap analysis for RCMS was conducted by DNV from 20th to 23rd May 2010. As a result of the continuous efforts by all concerned parties at GPIC, the first annual external audit for RC 14001 was conducted during 19th – 20th June 2011 by DNV, where DNV found that GPIC is fully complying with this standard’s requirements.
It is with great pleasure that we announce here today that the excellent work and the efforts exerted by all of us at GPIC resulted in the Company obtaining RC 14001 certification on 12th July 2010. This means that we are the first petrochemical company in the Arabian Gulf to be certified in the Responsible Care RC 14001 Standard.
Regular internal audits, newsletters and awareness lectures have been made to highlight this subject and to promote GPIC staff awareness accordingly.
