The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said that what was happening in Syria was “unacceptable” and said the Saudi Ambassador in Damascus was being recalled for consultations.
King Abdullah, being quoted by Al-Arabiya satellite channel and posted by the BNA on its website, demanded an immediate halt of bloodshed and called on the Syrian authorities to initiate reforms on the ground “to be felt by our brothers in Syria.” He said what was happening in Syria “is distant from religion and morals” which resulted in large number of “martyrs” and many injured.
“The Syrian authorities should implement reforms rapidly or drifted into chaos,” warned the Saudi King.
Arab League Secretary-General Dr Nabeel Al-Arabi had also voiced its concerns over mounting violence and escalating military operations across Syria, deploring the tragic death toll among civilians and the destruction of public and private facilities.
In statement issued by Dr Al-Arabi said there was still a chance to carry out the reforms announced by President Bashar Al-Assad in response to the aspirations of the Syrian people and its legitimate demands for freedom, genuine change and political reforms.
He also called on the Syrian authorities to immediately stop all forms of violence and security campaigns and take the necessary measures towards protecting the national unity and stopping the bloodshed and averting any foreign interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.
“The Arab League rejects foreign interference in the internal affairs of countries”, he said, stressing the keenness of the pan-Arab organization one safety and security of member countries and their political stability.
In a separate statement, GCC member states expressed their extreme concern and their regret on the deterioration of the situation in Syria and the increase of violence there along with the extreme use of force.
In the statement issued by the GCC General Secretariat said that it regretted and sorrow and the continuation of bloodshed in Syria. It also affirmed interest in the security, stability and unity of Syria.
It called for the immediate halt of all armoured protests and stop the bloodshed and seeking the atmosphere of wisdom.
The statement also indicated the need for true reforms that preserves the rights of the Syria people.
