The Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) has adopted measurement standards for various quantities after a number of experts and technicians from the Organization appraised technical potentials in member countries.
The Organization has approved the standards for mass measurements applicable in Dubai Central Lab, measurement and calibration standards applicable in Thermal and Humidity Labs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in addition to measurement standards for electric power, dimensions, compression and torque measurements applicable in the State of Qatar.
The approval process comes after a survey was conducted by the Organization for the technical potentials of member countries in the field of measurement and calibration aimed at choosing the best standards of measurement and their approval in line with the conditions and requirements applicable by the Authority for this purpose.
The GCC Standardization Organization’s secretary-general Dr. Anwar Al-Abdullah explained that the Authority seeks cooperation and coordination with GCC member countries in order to avail from existing technical potentials and practical expertise in the member countries and to devote them to serve other member countries in the various activities of measurement, pointing out that after approval of the GCC Standardization criteria, the measurement laboratories whose measurements have been approved become a point of reference to all member countries in the Authority.
The Authority develops, maintains and provides a series standards for legal measurements according to the need of member countries and represents them at international functions regarding standardization in addition to the provision of calibration, comparison programs and supports scientific and technological development processes through research and training in this domain in compliance with internationally-recognized standards approved by the International Bureau of Weights and Measurements.
The process aims to ensure correct measurements, consumer safety and confidence as well as fair business transactions in addition to removal of any technical obstacles and to ease business transactions between member countries and the rest of the world
