Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty King Hamad and President of the Supreme Council for Women patronized the opening of two geriatric wards at Muharraq-based Maternity Hospital and the Elderly House.
The new facilities are named respectively after Khalil bin Ibrahim Kanoo and Salman bin Khalil Kanoo. HRH Princess Sabeeka praised the advanced level of health services in Bahrain, and the ongoing development to enhance citizens’ living standards, hailing the efforts of Kanoo family in supporting community progress and upgrading health services – an effort that requires optimal investment to guarantee healthcare, especially for the elderly, thus reflecting the private sector’s spirit of social responsibility. She praised the opening of these important medical wards in Muharraq which represents a cornerstone of Bahrain’s development. HRH Princess Sabeeka honored a number of people, who shouldered the costs of the newly-established geriatric wards. Health Minister Health Sadiq Al-Shehabi presented HRH Princess Sabeeka with a commemorative gift in recognition of her keen interest in promoting optimum services and developed facilities for citizens. Bahrain’s First Lady toured Muharraq Maternity Hospital as well as the Elderly House, the only geriatric hospital in the kingdom. The facility, which opened officially in 1973, is capable of accommodating 107 patients.
