Minister of State for Human Rights Affairs Dr. Salah bin Ali Abdulrahman discussed with Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Kyung-Wha Kang the existing cooperation between the high commissioner’s office and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The cooperation originated during Navi Pillay’s visit to Bahrain in 2010 as part of her tour of the region, and in support of Bahrain to implement its commitments, by providing technical support in order to build human rights capabilities.
The minister briefed Kang on the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI), headed by Professor Mahmoud Charif Basiouni and a number of experts, and the resulting report’s contents of recommendations for the Bahraini government to implement, following which the Kingdom formed a national committee in charge of implementation, a committee also formed of expertise in various fields, working on concluding the files related to the 2011 events.
Minister Dr. Salah bin Ali presented the Deputy High Commander with a copy of BICI’s report for follow-up of its implementations, and she on her part voiced an initiative to send technical missionaries to the Kingdom for up-close follow-up.
