Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani has extended heartfelt congratulations to leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), marking the 31st Anniversary of the entity, launched in Abu Dhabi on May 25, 1971, wishing GCC countries and people further progress and prosperity.
Dr. Al Zayani said that the establishment of the GCC was the fruitful result of its leaders’ determination and belief in the need to ensure a prosperous future for their citizens, noting that the GCC has succeeded in withstanding difficulties and overcoming challenges and proved its strength and solidity.
He also pointed out that GCC leaders’ welcoming of the historic initiative launched by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdulla bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to move from the cooperation phase to a union one testifies to their common desire to achieve the aspirations of the GCC citizens for more prosperity.
GCC Chief lauded the fruitful outcome of the 14th GCC Consultative Summit, hosted by Riyadh on May 14, 2012, praising its decision tasking the ministerial council to study the report on the GCC Union and submit its findings to the GCC Supreme Council.
He also asserted that King Abdulla’s initiative is in line with the basic objectives of the Gulf Cooperation Council whose ultimate goal has always been unity between the member states, adding that the landmark achievements attained over the past three decades lay the solid basis for the establishment of the Gulf Union.
