Shura Council member Jameela Salman stressed the importance of promoting the role of women in legislative institutions, especially elected parliaments.
Addressing a special session on social partnership as part of Inter-parliamentary Conference in Canada, she pointed out that women occupy 19% of the seats in the National Assembly.
She updated the session on Bahrain woman’s status regarding legislative work, outlining efforts to empower her politically, economically and socially.
She said that woman’s empowered features as a cornerstone of the strategy spearheaded by the wise leadership in the King of Bahrain.
She pointed out the positions held in the legislative authority, including the second vice president of the Shura Council in addition to the chairman and vice-chairmanship of four committees. An elected woman MP is also presiding over the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee.
