Manama: The Chief of Public Security Major-General Tariq Al Hassan revealed that the police have been working on many leads including individuals and groups being the prime suspects behind a string of explosions in the capital city.
“Yes we are working on substantial evidence and you never know may be some arrests are being made as we are speaking,” General Tariq on the sidelines of the Press conference said, which held at Police Officers Club on Monday evening.
He said that it was too early to determine the explosive material as the investigations were underway and all aspects of the tragic incidents were thoroughly being taken care of.
Three victims have been identified as two Indians and one of Bangladeshi origin.
The Police Chief held a press conference to update the public on the status of the investigation regarding the five domestic terror bombings that took place Monday morning in Adliya, Qudaibiya and Hoora in the Manama Governorate. Two Asians killed in separate explosions in Qudaibiya while a third person sustained serious injuries in an explosion in Adliya.
General Tariq said that disgruntled elements had been carrying out these crimes since the start of the year by targeting innocent people.
“The Monday’s attacks not necessarily reaction to the ban on the protests and rallies enforced by the government last week,” he said, while responding to a question.
“The 999 Center received a call at 4:31am Monday morning from a Bahraini who reported that an Asian cleaner had been injured in an explosion while he was working near a Maatam (Community Center) in Adliya. Authorities rushed to the scene and an ambulance transferred the injured man to the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) where he was admitted to the ICU,” he said.
“Police found a second bomb 15 to 20 meters from the location of the first explosion. The authorities performed a controlled detonation of the device without incident,” General Tariq said.

“The 999 Center received a report of a fourth explosion at 8:55am. The caller reported that a man had been injured in an explosion behind a building in Qudaibiya. Authorities transported the injured man to SMC, but doctors were unable to save his life.”

“Crime scenes in all five bombing locations were established, forensic evidence was collected and witness statements were taken. The investigation has identified several suspects and the public prosecution has been notified.”
The Interior Minister reiterated that no effort would be spared to find those responsible and bring them to justice. He also reminded everyone to be careful if they see a strange or suspicious object, to stay clear and do not touch it, and to call 999 to report the location.
