Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa chaired the second meeting of the GCC–Russia Strategic Dialogue.
The GCC member states strongly condemned continuing violence, bloodshed and atrocious massacres perpetrated against the Syrian people.
They called upon the international community to undertake effective measures to protect Syrian civilians extend a lifeline to Syrian people and step up Arab and international efforts to stop the bloodshed and dispatch urgent humanitarian relief aid.
The GCC foreign ministers stressed the pivotal role of Russia as well its ability to contribute to the settlement of the Syrian crisis.
Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa then held a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
He pointed out that the meeting focused on GCC-Russian cooperation, commending the historic Russian support for the Arab causes.
He called for a strong UN resolution in light of the failure of all initiatives and attempts to settle the Syrian crises and the continuous state of polarization and division inside the UN Security council.
He also expressed the hope that Russia would join the efforts aimed at halting violence in Syria.
