The historic ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of India cannot in any way be fractured by the heinous acts of terrorists, said the Minister for State in the Information Affairs Authority, Sameera Rajab.
On the sidelines of ‘Irresistible India’ an event organised under the patronage of the Embassy of India to Bahrain, she told the Bahrain News Agency that the acts of terrorism affected some expatriates, but Bahrain sees it as an act of sabotage indulged in to tarnish the fair name of the country.
Indians are the second largest community residing in the Kingdom, the first being Bahrainis themselves and the recent acts on the hapless Indians can only be described as ‘terrible’. Bahrain is strong enough to recoup from such acts and its image cannot be sullied by the acts of a few, she added.
The two countries — the minister said delivering the keynote address at the event — had ancient traditions and cultures and thus were rich culturally. She praised the positive measures adopted by the Indian community in Bahrain.
The Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, Mohankumar, delivering the inaugural address at the Irresistible India event, said that Manama, which is now seen as the capital of the Arabian Culture, is ideally the hub of global culture.
He reminded the august gathering about the strong and historic ties between the nations of India and Bahrain. The event, Irresistible India, he said showcased India’s rich heritage in the classical dances.
Dr Mustafa Saeed, Secretary General of the Royal Charity Organisation, reading from the message of His Royal Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, welcomed the troupes that will perform in Bahrain. “Bahrain is proud to host the cultural contribution of India as much as it is proud of being a host to the Indians who have displayed humane characteristics,” he added.
The addresses were followed by an Indian dance performance. About 400 people attended the occasion.
