The 18th Middle East Oil & Gas Show and Conference (MEOS) will take place from 10–13 March 2013 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister of Bahrain Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. Organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Arabian Exhibition Management (AEM), MEOS continues to be one of the largest and best attended technical events of its kind in the region.
After a successful result in abstracts submission, the MEOS committees have set the technical agenda for this multi-disciplinary conference. The agenda includes 36 technical sessions with more than 140 presentations and more than 50 poster presentations on topics covering exploration and appraisal; drilling and completions; reservoir engineering; production and facilities; and health, safety, security and environment.
The 2013 MEOS conference chairman, Saudi Aramco’s Abdulaziz Al AbdulKarim, praised the programme committee in selecting the papers submitted. “The committee’s efforts and firm approach in the selection process has ensured technical integrity to this programme which will attract oil and gas professionals from around the world. This guarantees the programme is unmatched in quality and sets a high benchmark for papers presented in future events”.
A key highlight of the conference programme, the executive plenary session, will involve leading industry figures discussing the conference theme “Transforming the Energy Future”. Confirmed speakers include: Amin H. Nasser, Senior Vice President Upstream, Saudi Aramco; James Johnson, President of Chevron Europe, Eurasia and Middle East Exploration and Production Company, Chevron; Martin Craighead, President and CEO, Baker Hughes; Paal Kibsgaard, CEO, Schlumberger; and Sara Ortwein, President, ExxonMobil Upstream Research.
MEOS will also offer five panel sessions discussing important matters relevant to today’s industry: the gas challenge; talent development and knowledge sharing; technologies required to unlock unconventional resources; greener petroleum—collaboration for sustainability; and developing local content.
Abdullatif A. Al-Othman, Governor and Chairman of the Board of Directors, SAGIA, will present another important session, the industry breakfast session on “Financing the Change”, addressing the main changes expected in the upcoming decade, strategies behind these changes and how they will be managed and financed.
A 3-day exhibition of oil and gas products and services will run parallel to the conference from 11–13 March. Spanning 14,800 square metres, it features over 300 exhibitors from 30 countries and covers all areas of the upstream industry; including exploration and production, on-shore and offshore technology, transportation, geophysics, drilling and completion, measurement systems, automation and information technology, security and environmental protection.
Principal exhibitors include all six GCC national oil and gas companies – Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Bapco, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Petroleum Development Oman, Qatar Petroleum, and Saudi Aramco – who will be exhibiting alongside supermajors including Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell. International oil and gas exploration and production companies such as Occidental Petroleum Corporation; service industry giants Baker Hughes, Halliburton, Schlumberger and Weatherford; large national groups from North America and the UK; and numerous independent specialist suppliers and distributors from across the globe complete this line up.
“With a strong technical programme and comprehensive exhibition, companies and delegates alike can utilise MEOS 2013 to learn, forge business relationships, share expertise, and create new technologies in one of the most prolific hydrocarbon regions in the world,” Arabian Exhibition Management’s Director of Sales and Marketing Fawzi Al Shehabi, said.
