The Foreign Ministry of Pakistan rules out mass evacuation of its 65,000 strong community from Bahrain after the killing of its citizens as result of barbaric acts targeting Pakistan nationals by a group of thugs during the last week violence.
“The Government of Pakistan is in touch with the Bahraini authorities and closely watching unfolding events in Manama and the mass exodus is not being considered at this stage,” Tehmina Janjua, spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Islamabad said.
The Foreign Ministry official hoped that with the emergency steps initiated taken by Bahraini Government, the situation of security would improve and Pakistan would watch the situation in the coming days before taking any decision.
“We are very much concerned with the unfortunate incidents of target killings by a group in Bahrain and Pakistan embassy in Manama is on high alert to cope with any possible untoward situation,” she explained.
The Foreign Ministry also authorized the embassy to meet all financial, medical, food, logistic or shelter needs for those we were affected by the spate of violence.
“We have issued directives to the Charge d’ Affaires on telephone to do everything possible to assist, help and repatriate people, if needed, without any delay.
“The Kingdom of Bahrain and Pakistan enjoy cordial ties and many Pakistanis live, work and do business here and any future decision will be taken keeping in view the impact on close and fraternal relations between the two countries,” she asserted.
