The Central Bank Governor, (CBB), Rasheed M. Al Maraj, who received on Tuesday Rt Hon the Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman Roger Gifford and his accompanying delegation currently visiting the Kingdom, said that the financial services sector serve as a bridge between the two countries.
Al Maraj welcomed the Lord Mayor to Bahrain and briefed him about the role of the CBB and the recent development in the financial sector in Bahrain.
The meeting highlighted Bahrain’s strong historical relationship with the City of London and their shared experiences over the years.
“We have always looked to City of London as a model, and despite the financial crises of recent years it remains the leading financial centre in the world,” Al Maraj said.
“The financial services sector has always played an important link between our two countries, we will continue to build on that for the future,” Al Maraj, added.
The Governor praised the British regulatory authorities for extending many licenses to Islamic Financial Institutions and setting up the necessary foundation and services towards the development of this important sector in the UK.
