Gulf Business Machines (GBM), the leading IT solutions provider in the region, has upgraded the University of Bahrain’s IT infrastructure using IBM PureFlex System, a part of IBM’s PureSystems family. The project was implemented by GBM’s division in Bahrain, Bahrain Business Machines (BBM) and is the first of its kind in the education sector in the GCC region.
The PureFlex System combines compute, storage, networking, virtualization and management into a single infrastructure system that is an expert at sensing and anticipating resource needs to optimize infrastructure. Through the built-in expertise and integrated design of IBM PureFlex System, the University of Bahrain will benefit from a simplified IT experience as well as enhanced integrated storage, improved management capabilities and new networking features.

Through the deployment, the University of Bahrain now will not only enjoy increased efficiency and productivity and more streamlined operations but also significant energy cost reduction. With IBM PureFlex System’s scalable and extendable features, the university will be able to upgrade and enhance its IT infrastructure in the future with decreased downtime. Additionally, IBM technology now allows triple the number of current e-learning users to access the university network simultaneously.

The announcement was made during GBM’s PureSystems event which took place in Bahrain on March 18th where GBM and IBM experts showcased the latest IBM PureSystems technologies: IBM PureFlex as well as IBM SmartCloud Entry. GBM is currently the sole distributor for selected PureFlex products and services across the GCC, excluding Saudi Arabia and has a team of over 100 certified PureFlex professionals ready to provide customers with the services and support required before, during and after the implementation.
The event was attended by more than 70 IT specialists as well as customers and partners from across the region.
