Parts of Bahrain were jolted by aftershocks of a powerful earthquake of 7.8- magnitude which had caused wide devastation in Iran, India and Pakistan in the afternoon on Tuesday.
This is second week in a row when Bahrain felt tremors of an earthquake with an epicentre in Iran and on Tuesday people got panicked and high rise buildings, offices and business places were evacuated as pre caution of aftershocks of earthquake.
“I was in Pakistan mission in Diplomatic Area when the wall hangings and ceiling fans were start swinging and immediate the embassy premises was evacuated,” Zahid Sheikh Pakistan Club’s Information Secretary told the 24X7News. “I was there for a routine business when the earthquake tremors felt and immediately embassy building was evacuated.”
The tremors were also felt in Seef and other areas where all main buildings were evacuated as a pre-caution.
The Meteorological Directorate in the Ministry of Transportation confirmed the number of aftershocks which had reportedly been felt by people in the Northern parts of the Kingdom of Bahrain especially those residing or working on high-rise buildings.
The Directorate quoted the UAE’s National Meteorological and Earthquakes Center which reported that the epicenter of today’s magnitude-7.8 earthquake on the Richter scale was in the southern areas on the Iran-Pakistan borders.
Initial reports say 11 people including five women and three children were killed as buildings collapsed in Pakistan an area bordering Iran.
