Chief Prosecutor, and Head of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Nawaf Abdullah Hamza said that the Unit received (12) complaints of ill-treatment last July, where the Unit directly started its investigation for them all.
He also highlighted that the Unit listened to 13 complainants, 8 witnesses, interrogated 22 defendants in various cases, and referred 5 complainants to the Unit’s forensic doctor for a medical examination to indicate their injuries, their causes and the date of their occurrence if there were any.
The Chief Prosecutor also stated that two victims were referred to the psychiatrist of the Unit for check-up and preparing a separate report in this concern.
On the other hand, the Unit referred a defendant from the members of Public Security Forces to the High Criminal Court for inflicting physical pain to a defendant in order to obtain a confession from him, as well as publishing his photos in a public way before the issuance of a legal verdict, and without the permission of the Public Prosecution, and requested that he has to be punished according to the articles 2/75, 4, 76, 2/92, 3, 107, 208, 5/246 of the Penal Code.
The Unit also referred (4) defendants from the members of Public Security Forces to the Minor Criminal Court for beating the mentioned victim when arresting him, and requested punishing them with the articles 4/75 and 1,2/339 of the Penal Code.
