The Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa took part in the ministerial meeting of the Friends of Syria Group, on the sidelines of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The meeting discussed the Syrian issue and the importance of holding the “Geneva II” Conference to reflect the aspirations of the Syrian people for a political solution and launch a negotiation path that leads to the establishment of an interim government that is agreed upon by all sides, in support of political and security stability in the Middle East region.
Participants in the meeting affirmed their support to the National Coalition for the Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces as a legitimate representative of the Syrian people.
They also stressed the need to put an end to the sufferings of the Syrian people, and reach a political solution to the crisis, and condemned the use of the internationally prohibited chemical weapons.
The National Coalition for the Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces expressed its preparedness to fully cooperate with the UN and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in this regard, affirming at the same time the importance of providing humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people.
