The General Prosecution summoned the former staff members of Al Wasat Newspaper; Editor-in-Chief Mansoor Al Jamri, managing editor Walid Nouwaihidh, and head of local news department, Aqeel Mirza, quizzing them over allegations of publishing false news.
Prosecutor General Dr. Ali bin Fadhl Al Buainin stated that they were released following the interrogation, asserting that they will stand trial as soon as investigations are over.
Three of them are accused of publishing fabricated news following the legal case filed by the Information Affairs Authority (IAA) against Al Wasat newspaper.
The General Prosecution charged them with publishing fabricated news and made up stories in an open way that may harm public safety and national interests and provided them with compelling evidence collected by the Anti-Economic Crime Directorate, he also said.
