Istanbul: Islamic Development Banking Group has announced plans to invest $100 billion on development of the OIC member states in next 10 years.
“IDB Group renews its commitment to implement the resolutions of the 13th OIC Summit, translating them into actionable programs and projects for prosperity and better future for the citizens of the OIC member countries and Muslim communities” said Dr Ahmed Mohamed Ali President of the Islamic Development Bank Group in his address to the Summit.
He further lent support to priorities identified by the current chair of the OIC 13th Summit H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdogan President of Turkey. These include women empowerment, youth development, poverty reduction and enhancing capacity of national Red Crescent Societies to ensure resilience and reach remote communities.
IDB Group President praised the strategic initiative of King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz building bridge over the Red Sea connecting Africa with Asia. Dr Ali expressed his keenness for similar initiatives to link continents by roads, bridges and railways for prosperity and better future of citizens in our member countries. Such corridors include the Trans-Saharan road across Africa and the Silk Road across Asia and Europe through the Middle East.
Dr Ahmed Mohamed Ali highlighted the importance of implementation of OIC economic cooperation agreements and assured OIC leaders of the IDB’s readiness to support the operationalization of these agreements. He further emphasized the need to promote technical cooperation between member countries aiming at sharing unique knowledge and experience in Economic transformation.
The IDBG delegation has participated in the OIC Young Leaders Summit deliberating global challenges of Muslim youth. The young leaders delivered their recommendations to the leaders of OIC member countries at the Summit.
Addressing the OIC First Ladies’ Leadership event on Cancer Control in OIC member countries, the president of IDB reiterated the bank group commitment to support awareness and preventive pre-screening programs. A sizable share of IDB funded projects during the next few years shall focus on health resilience. The IDB President announced that the IDB Prize for Women will be dedicated to the theme of Cancer Control.
The President of IDB Group commended the OIC Summit resolutions on economic empowerment program for the people of Palestine. This program is built on the success of the Deprived Families Economic Empowerment Program that has enabled to thousands of families in Palestine to uplift themselves from poverty.
The theme of this the 13th OIC Summit is “Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace. The issues high on the agenda of the Summit include: Palestine and Arab Israeli Conflict, – Conflict situations in the Muslim World, – Situation of Muslim communities in Non-OIC Member States, – Combating terrorism and violent extremism, – Islamophobia, – Humanitarian situation in the Muslim World, – OIC-2025: Programme of Action, – Advancing scientific (Health, Higher Education and environment) cooperation among Member States,- Poverty eradication and infrastructure development in OIC Member States, and Empowering the OIC to deliver on its mandate.
