MANAMA: A residential building has been collapsed in Manama in late afternoon on Monday resulting in minor to serious injuries as over 20 cases have so far referred to the hospitals.
The top officials including the Capital Governor HE Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa visited injured at the Salmaniya Medical Complex, where emergency has been put in place to cope with the situation.
General Tariq Hassan, Chief of Public Security also visited the area and got briefing on the search and rescue operation.
Initial reports suggest that the immediate cause of the collapse was due to cylinder explosion at the second floor of the building while some eye witnesses claim that the explosion was heard in an adjacent restaurant.
More than 11 civil defence vehicles, 15 security patrols, 60 personnel and 19 ambulances are carrying out the rescue operations.
A statement on the official account of the Ministry of Interior maintained that search and rescue efforts have been continuing following the incident of the collapse of a residential building in Salmania area. Also, a temporary shelter as well as securing the surrounding buildings were taken care of by the authorities.
The authorities are investigating incident of collapse caused by a gas cylinder explosion and police said the injuries also included some serious cases without elaborating.
