Manama: The National Committee on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Development, Production, Use and Stockpiling and their Destruction held its 10th meeting chaired by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa with the participation of the members of the Committee representing the relevant ministries and government bodies.
Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa welcomed the members of the Committee, praising the efforts exerted by all members of the Committee to meet the Committee’s objectives and obligations.
During the meeting, the Committee reviewed the outcomes of participating in the Twenty-Fourth Conference of the States Parties of the Chemical Weapons Convention held in The Hague, Netherlands, during the period 25-29 November 2019. The annual National Committee on the Prohibition Chemical Weapons Development, Production, Use and Stockpiling and their Destruction for 2019, which will be presented before the Cabinet, was also reviewed.
The Committee also discussed the Scientific Research Award which is about to be launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the University of Bahrain next year. The Award aims to develop the spirit and mastery of scientific research among university students in the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as enhance research fields related to the prohibition of chemical weapons and spread awareness regarding this matter.
They also shed light on the participation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the The United Nations Programme of Fellowships on Disarmament which helped the participants gain legal and diplomatic experiences in the field of disarmament and enhance the Kingdom’s achievements in this field as well as many other benefits.
The Committee also presented its workshops for 2020 as well as its plan to be followed by other authorities next year.
