MANAMA: The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) has concluded the second edition of the Children’s Cultural Program, held at the Bahrain National Museum throughout July and August 2026. More than 100 children and young people of different age groups took part in a diverse program of interactive activities spanning art, crafts, heritage and history, led by a distinguished group of trainers and specialists in museums and national heritage.
The program explored aspects of Bahrain’s heritage and archaeology that are deeply rooted in the collective memory of Bahraini society, offering insights into the lives of the Kingdom’s early inhabitants. It also highlighted Bahrainis’ longstanding relationship with the sea and the role it has played in shaping the country’s economic and social life. The palm tree was another key focus, highlighting its historical importance as a source of materials for building homes, as well as food and tools used in everyday life. Participants were also introduced to museum practices, heritage collections and the civilisations that have inhabited Bahrain over the centuries.
A dedicated part of the program introduced participants to some of the traditional crafts for which Bahrain is renowned, including pottery-making and the production of Bahraini sweets, alongside other traditional crafts and professions. The program also sought to develop children’s practical life skills through experiences reflecting authentic Bahraini customs and traditions, while introducing them to traditional games and fine arts that reflect the Kingdom’s cultural heritage.
Bringing these themes together, the program featured more than 20 interactive activities and events. Highlights included the Secrets of Dilmun Burial Mounds workshop and the Archaeological Site Inspector session, as well as an interactive experience at Qal’at al-Bahrain using the Find Enkiru app, designed to develop children’s skills in exploring history through an engaging, interactive approach.
The program was further enriched by a series of field visits to the Qal’at al-Bahrain Site Museum, Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre, a traditional pottery workshop in A’ali, and the Showaiter sweets factory. These visits offered children and young people first-hand insight into traditional practices, deepening their knowledge and appreciation of Bahrain’s cultural heritage.
As the program drew to a close, parents of participating children highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for younger generations to engage more closely with their country’s history and heritage, an objective brought to life through the diverse activities and experiences offered by the Children’s Cultural Program. They also expressed their appreciation for the role of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities in fostering a sense of national pride and instilling an appreciation of Bahrain’s heritage among younger generations.

Their valuable contributions enriched the program by presenting key themes and experiences connected to the history and cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
