iGA DCE attends a high-level meeting of heads of national Statistical Offices in OIC member states

Manama: The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA)’s Deputy Chief Executive for Statistics and Population Registry, Ms. Duaa Sultan Mohamed, participated in the High-Level Meeting of women  Heads of National Statistical Offices of the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), organised by the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) via videoconference, under the theme “Women’s Leadership in Statistical Decision-Making.”

During the meeting, Ms. Duaa Sultan affirmed that the progress achieved by Bahraini women and thier active participation across various  areas  reflect the support provided to Bahraini women under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to build on the achievements made by Bahraini women and strengthen their role as active partners in the Kingdom’s comprehensive development process.

In this regard, she highlighted the pioneering efforts of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, in supporting the advancement of Bahraini women and enhancing their contributions across various sectors. She noted that the Council’s celebration this year of its Silver Jubilee reflects a 25-year national journey that has resulted in strengthening the presence of Bahraini women across various fields of work and responsibility, as well as their influential participation in the development process and decision-making.

iGA Deputy Chief Executive also explained that the progress of Bahraini women in the statistical field reflects this advancement, with women playing an active role across the various stages of statistical work, from data production and analysis to project management and assuming executive responsibilities.

She noted that women account for 52.5% of the total workforce in the statistical departments at the iGA, while their representation in executive positions within these departments stands at 72.7%. Women also account for 48.8% of those working on statistical projects. These indicators reflect the advanced position of female professionals within Bahrain’s statistical system.

Ms. Duaa stated that this strong representation of female professionals contributes to enriching statistical work and broadening the range of expertise involved, supporting the development of more comprehensive national statistics that respond to changing development needs and priorities. It also strengthens the use of reliable data in policymaking and decision-making.

She highlighted the importance of continuing to invest in developing the capabilities of national professionals working in the statistical field and expanding opportunities for knowledge and expertise exchange among statistical offices of OIC Member States. This, she noted, will enhance their readiness to keep pace with rapid developments in the statistical field and leverage modern technologies to further develop statistical tools and outputs.

Ms. Duaa highlighted the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to continuing its contribution to regional and international statistical cooperation, exchanging expertise and successful practices, in a manner that supports the development of statistical systems and strengthens the role of statistics and data in advancing development priorities and supporting decision-making.
