PRAGUE: The International Institute for Strategic Studies, together with the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), have signed an agreement which will see the IISS Stockholm Civil Defence Forum continue.

The inaugural staging of the Forum in April 2026 successfully brought together political, military and industrial leaders to engage in discussions on how to approach civil defence and the challenges that lie ahead.

“Last year’s IISS Stockholm Civil Defence Forum was a clear sign that Europe is ready for the debate about this increasingly important area of defence. We are delighted to see this conference continue to help address the challenges that face the whole of Europe,” Jens Mattsson, Director-General of FOI, said.

“We were very pleased to see the success of the first IISS Stockholm Civil Defence Forum and that it was so warmly received. The IISS Stockholm Civil Defence Forum is now very much established within our portfolio of events, and we look forward to more conversations in Stockholm next year,” IISS Director-General and Chief Executive Bastian Giegerich said.
