The signs of normalcy on the Manama roads and the GCC Roundabout became visible on Wednesday evening, thanks to the swift and result oriented cleanup operation led by the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF).

In less than 24 hours of the start of the BDF-led operation supported by the GCC Peninsula Shield Force and the Public Security managed to secure the GCC Roundabout, formerly known as Pearl Roundabout also clearing up Salmaniya Medical Complex and the areas adjacent to the Bahrain Financial Harbour, the signs of normalcy are visible.

Following the securing these areas, the authorities ordered a cleanup operation to bring the movement of commuters and vehicles back to normal after the five weeks of the partial paralysis of normal life in and around Manama.

The cleanup operation of the GCC Roundabout started at 5.30am and on their way the public security was came under fire near Bahrain Mall upon which the military secured the area paving the way for police to reach roundabout without any resistance.

However, in a criminal act a speeding SUV ran over the public security leaving two policemen dead and the authorities arrested the two occupants of the vehicle.

While leaving, the perpetrators torched the tents and also threw Molotov on the security forces.
The General Command of Bahrain Defence Force announces that on Wednesday 16 March 2011, forces from the Public Security and the National Guard, with the support of the Bahrain Defence Force, launched an operation to clear the Gulf Cooperation Council Roundabout, the Bahrain Financial Harbour, the Salmaniya Medical Complex and the areas surrounding them.
