Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL)’ signature “pink plane” is flying this month in support of the airline’s continued efforts to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The aircraft, which is dedicated to BCRF founder, Evelyn Lauder, will be flying to cities across Delta’s international network throughout October as part of the airline’s annual awareness campaign and fundraising effort for the Foundation.
“At Delta we are proud to support such a noteworthy cause and combined efforts from customers, employees and families in raising USD 5 million since we began working with the BCRF has directly contributed to 18 fully funded research grants worldwide,” Perry Cantarutti, Delta’s senior vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said.
Delta’s flight attendants will be wearing pink uniforms to support the cause with the proceeds from onboard sales of pink lemonade and pink headsets going to BCRF. Delta will also donate $1 to BCRF for the first 50,000 new “Likes” on the Delta Facebook page during October. New and current fans will be able to download a customized Delta Facebook cover and profile image, highlighting their contribution to the cause (www.facebook.com/delta).
Delta’s international “pink plane”, a Boeing 767-400, features BCRF’s trademarked pink ribbon logo on the tail of the aircraft and adjacent to the boarding door. On board it offers Delta’s full-flat-bed BusinessElite seats as well as Economy Comfort – Delta’s premium economy product. It was painted pink in May 2010 and since then has carried nearly 266,753 customers and flown nearly 10,600 hours – or approximately 1,300 trips around the world. Delta’s first pink plane was a Boeing 757 that between 2005 and 2010 flew throughout the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean to generate awareness for the cause.
