The Minister of State for Information Affairs cum Government’s Official Spokesperson, Samira Ibrahim bin Rajab, emphasized that the Kingdom of Bahrain has the lead in respecting press and media freedoms since the National Action Charter was launched in February 2001 and constitutional modifications which boosted political reforms and democratization and consolidated our parliamentary experience.

This came during the Minister’s reception to a European human rights delegation led by Stavros L’Amberdini the EU Special Representative for Human Rights in the presence of the Information Affairs Authority (IAA)’s President Ali Al-Rumaihi and the Ministry of Human Rights Affairs (MoHRA)’s Directorate of Coordination and Follow-up Director Shaikh Khalifa bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.

The Minister explained that Bahrain has experienced positive ongoing developments in human rights, democratic breakthrough, protection of mother and child rights, support of civic community, expansion of parliamentary powers – both chambers: House of Representatives and Shura Council – developing national legislations commensurate with international human rights conventions and pacts, all within the State of the law and constitutional institutions.

The EU human rights delegation expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Minister for the good reception, wishing the Kingdom of Bahrain perpetual security and stability and successfulness of the National Dialogue in boosting national unity and supporting the efforts in reforms and sustainable development as part of the reform project initiated by His Majesty the King.

The meeting was attended from the European side by Ambassador Adam Kalakh the chief commissioner of the EU in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Michelle Rio the political advisor to the Special Rep of the EU for Human Rights and Marcia Miko first secretary for political affairs in the EU Commission.
