As part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Bahraini retail and commercial banking institution, BMI Bank presented a collective donation of BD5, 000 jointly to Think Pink Bahrain and American Mission Hospital (AMH) demonstrating its commitment towards stronger participation in local community initiatives and campaigns.

The funds will be utilized by the respective organizations towards enhancing awareness amongst residents towards the disease of breast cancer, the benefits of earlier detection as well as to educate students in schools and universities across the country on breast cancer screenings. Two cheques were presented to AMH Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer Dr. George Cheriyan and Julie Sparkel – founder of Think Pink Bahrain respectively by the Bank’s General Manager Support Services Eyad Sater.

“Our commitment to American Mission Hospital and Think Pink Bahrain dates back to over 6 years and we are honored to partner them once again in 2013 as they continue to raise awareness levels for breast cancer within Bahrain and encourage young children and women to be proactive with regards to their health. Breast cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, according to the World Health Organization and is among the foremost health threats to women in the region,” Eyad Sater, said.

“As a responsible local BMI Bank, we believe it is imperative to acknowledge and help to educate people on breast cancer as well as raise awareness in our community and highlight the most effective treatment for the disease: early detection which saves lives,” he added.

“During the coming months AMH will be visiting various schools and universities to conduct breast cancer checks as well as educate students on the right way to self-check, whilst Think Pink Bahrain has a host of activities that actively interest and engage the community during October. We appreciate the time devoted by all the members, volunteers and supporters of both American Mission Hospital and Think Pink Bahrain in raising awareness levels of breast cancer within Bahrain.”

“The Breast cancer awareness program which falls under our community outreach program is the project closest to our hearts. It links us to our pioneers and helps us fulfill our legacy of selfless service to the community and people of Bahrain. It goes without saying that several people play an important role in helping us fulfill this legacy the most important of which are the sponsors who are themselves committed to fulfilling their social obligations,” Dr. George Cheriyan, CEO/ CMO, American Mission Hospital said.

“Think Pink Bahrain is once again honored to have the support of BMI Bank for their 2013 campaign. The Bank has always supported the charity, not only with financial contributions but has endorsed each year’s message by showcasing the artwork on their ATM machines and on their social channels. This form of awareness enables their patrons and stakeholders to understand the important of the awareness message, which is invaluable. The sponsorship directed towards the golfing events will support the Education Fund, which enables Bahraini health care professionals to receive internationally accredited qualifications, which are in turn used to support breast cancer issue within the Kingdom. We believe that education is the first step to prevention,” Julie Sparkel – founder of Think Pink Bahrain said.

“The donation from BMI Bank will be utilized to sponsor complete Breast cancer screenings and education for young students and women around Bahrain. The screening will start with a breast examination, followed by a consultation with a specialist and a mammogram/breast ultrasound which will all be provided free if needed. Our generous sponsor’s commitment to our Community Outreach program is much appreciated and with their support, we hope to make this event a successful yearly program,”

AMH Marketing and Development Manager, Bahnaz Abbas, said.
