Royal Golf Club: Mahmood Rafique, Editor: His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa has announced the renewal of 10-years hosting rights for Golf Championship making Bahrain as one of key golf destinations globally.
This came as His Majesty the King delegated His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to attend the opening ceremony of the Bapco Energies Bahrain Golf Championship His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, may God protect him, delegated His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty’s Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, to attend the official opening ceremony of the Bapco Energies Bahrain Golf Championship, which will be held at the Royal Golf Club from January 29 to February 1, 2026. Upon his arrival, His Highness was received by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the General Authority for Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
His Highness said that Bahrain’s hosting rights for this tournament for the next 10 years reflects confidence in Bahrain’s ability to organize professionally, sustain success, and strengthen international sports partnerships. His Highness noted that this year’s tournament features a selection of the world’s top golfers, including three Bahraini players, along with a comprehensive program of entertainment events.
He commended the efforts of all those involved in organizing the tournament, including Bapco Energies, the sponsors, partners, working committees, and volunteers. Mr. Tom Phillips, representing the DP World Tour, delivered a speech during the opening ceremony, praising the exceptional organization and extensive preparations for the tournament. He commended the efforts of the organizing committee and all those involved in ensuring its success. The opening ceremony featured a special artistic segment that included a song and a captivating film showcasing the history of golf in the Kingdom of Bahrain, its evolution, and its prominent regional and international presence. The film also included footage of the achievements of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, number 13, highlighting the Kingdom of Bahrain’s comprehensive development and progress, and referencing the “Year of Isa the Great,” which the Kingdom will celebrate in 2026. In an interactive scene, His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa signed a golf ball. The ceremony concluded with the entrance of the participating nations.
The opening ceremony was also attended by His Excellency Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, and number of their highnesses, excellencies, and high-ranking officials.
His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for his generous patronage of the tournament, which reflects His Majesty’s great interest in Bahraini sports and his continuous support for hosting international sporting events. His Highness noted that the Bapco Energies Bahrain Golf Championship is a prominent event on the international golf calendar, distinguished by its exceptional organization and high level of competition. He added that it also provides an opportunity to showcase Bahrain’s advanced sporting and tourism capabilities to the world and wished all participants every success. The opening ceremony began with the playing of the national anthem, followed by a speech from His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who expressed his gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, may God protect him, for His Majesty’s continued support of the sports movement in general and golf in particular, and to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, for his ongoing support of the sports sector. His Highness also expressed his thanks to His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his care and attention to the development of Bahraini sports.
