Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Juan Somavia has welcomed and expressed delight at the Kingdom’s resolve to solve the issue of dismissed workers seriously, expressing hope and confidence that the file will be finalized as soon as possible, in line with the kingdom’s wise leadership’s keenness to enhance its on-going fruitful cooperation with the three production sides so as to protect their interests.
He also expressed ILO’s readiness to provide all kinds of technical support for the kingdom in order to consolidate social dialogue and positive cooperation between the three production sides so as to enable the country to maintain its pioneering labour position, a regional example, affirming that the kingdom, thanks to the sound policies and comprehensive of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is capable of meeting the aspired progress and prosperity.
This came as Labour Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan met here today with ILO Director-General Juan Somavia and presented him with an official invitation to visit the Kingdom.
During the meeting, the Labour Minister expressed the kingdom’s thanks and appreciation to ILO Director-General and affiliates for supporting the kingdom in solving the issue of dismissed employees and constant readiness to provide the kingdom with technical assistance needed for consolidating its efforts to abide by international labour standards and ensure the success of labour projects implemented in the country.
The meeting was held following ILO’s Board’s suspension of complaint filed against the Government of Bahrain.
