The Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) Bahrain Chapter and Bahrain Society of Engineers under the patronage of United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) celebrated the 40th anniversary of UNEP on at an event held at the Bahrain Society of Engineers auditorium.
The event was opened by a welcome speech by the president of Bahrain Society of Engineers Engineer Majeed Al Gasseb followed by a short note by the IEP Chairman Engineer Qamar-ul Hassan.
Aurangzeb Head of Chancellery Embassy of Pakistan also highlighted the environmental issues and it’s important in his address to the audience.
United Nations Resident Coordinator Peter Grohmann read UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon’s “World Environment Day” message and UNEP / ROWA ‘Regional Director Dr. Iyad Ahumoghli was the keynote speaker for the event.
Dr. Iyad Abumoghli briefed the audience about the initiatives taken by the United Nations to meet the challenges the world is facing about the climate change, food and water shortages.
To mark the occasion and to raise awareness about ‘Environment’ in the students, an “Open Book Essay Competition” was also held. The essay competition was won by Sara Ruknndin of Pakistan School. She also delivered a short speech in the event and received her prize from Dr. Iyad Abumoghli and IEP Chairman Qamar ul Hassan.
The event was attended by more than 100 engineers including a large number of dignities from United Nations, Pakistan Embassy and Ministries.
